This is a fishing hot spot for largemouth bass, crappie and flathead catfish and is some of the best fishing of the year. Bass are mostly in post-spawn mode. There is usually decent topwater bit fishing at first light, and then off and on throughout the day. According to Mike McFarland of Hook Up Outfitters, it is a good time for flipping and pitching the brush and tree lines in shallow water. Some lunker bass are coming out of very shallow water using craws or other crayfish-like jigs. Lake elevation is 2,119 feet, and the lake level is at 64 percent.
Big Lake
Fishing is excellent; this is a fishing hot spot. Anglers are catching fish all over the lake, including a recently caught 22-inch rainbow trout. The store is open, and boat rentals are available. The lake was not impacted by last year’s Wallow fire. Anglers are catching trout on worms, Power Bait, lures and flies.
Apache
Bass fishing is good for post-spawn fish. There is a possibility of finding bass chasing shad at the surface, especially at first light. A few good-sized smallies are being caught. Please practice catch-and-release angling on these fish as they are in comeback mode. Walleye fishing should be decent at first and last light using crawler rigs or jigs tipped with worm. The lake is full of yellow bass; Try gold KastMasters or yellow/gold Rooster Tails. Catfish fishing and carp fishing should also be good. You may even catch one of the monster buffalo fish. Lake elevation is 1,907 feet, and the lake level is at 93 percent.
